Economic rationalism is apparently an Australian term. According to wikipedia it can be roughly translated into Thatcherism (UK), Rogernomics (NZ) and the Washington Consensus (US). Basically it means rationalising all decisions based on financial gain - most often in favour of big business, and to the detriment of the environment, and poor people. It is closely associated with freemarket economics.
